Forty five seniors at Tabor City high school received diplomas in the school auditorium Friday night May 28. Principal Pinner and teachers announced awards for writing, English, biology and history. Rebecca Spivey was valedictorian, Dorothy Garrell salutatorian, and Lewis Sykes third in scholastic honors.

Tabor City town board approved Hickory Drill Company bid to drill a new water well for 4000 less 250 with a flat fee and 200 gallon guarantee. Carolina Well Drill-ers bid 4600 for 200 gallons per minute with extra payment for water produced. Board also revised town privilege license fees. A 10 day Bible school begins Monday morning June 7 at 9 30 at Mt Tabor Baptist Church announced by Pastor Rev P C Gantt. Classes run Monday to Friday 9 30 to 11 and cover all ages with a planned program. Registration is Saturday June 5 at 2 for attendees to receive pins.

1000 Acres Of Tobacco Drowned In Columbus County
Approximately 1000 acres of tobacco were drowned in Columbus County during last week’s heavy rains. Farmers expect losses to be mitigated by insurance and resetting, with FCIC inspections planned before plowing. W. M. Boyce and other FCIC officials toured damaged areas, noting excess water harmed much tobacco. It may take days to assess full extent of damage.
