Flue-Cured Leaf Farmers Vote Referendum Set for July
About 250000 flue-cured tobacco farmers in North and South Carolina will vote on July 24 in a referendum on continuing a 10 cent per acre assessment to promote export outlets. Vaughan of Elm City Nc says Tobacco Associates backs the self-help plan as the best path to sustain overseas markets amid rising foreign competition. The vote covers all flue-cured producing counties and includes landlords tenants and sharecroppers from the 1955 crop.
