Officials expect continued heavy selling as warehouses push baskets toward a 7,000,000 pound seasonal target.

The Tabor City Rotary club met at the Modern Cafe Monday night to review basic club principles. Program Chairman C. H. Pinner led a question and answer session as members discussed fundamentals, rules, and standards and voted to buy a pamphlet series from the national organization.

Bobby Rogers was an honored guest as his mother Mrs. R. R. Rogers Jr. hosted a spaghetti dinner August 10 to celebrate his birthday. Mixed flowers filled the home and a birthday cake with yellow brown and green colors sat on the linen covered dining table. Guests included Miss Jane Roberts and Mrs. John Roberts of Fayetteville, the McArthurs Georgia Lou and Joe Men, the Rogers families, and other relatives. Additional guests and travels are noted for relatives visiting from Bel raves, Hartsville, Little River and local beaches.
Thanks to the county health department and the town of Tab or City, 344 homes were sprayed with DDT over a few weeks. 107 gallons were used and the operation required 101 man hours. H D Stevens Jr noted residents owe thanks to the county health department for securing DDT and spraying gear from the Federal government.
E. E. Prince, owner of the Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealership, is named General Motors Community Relations Chairman for the area for the coming year. He has held the post previously and will provide the public with educational materials such as booklets, motion pictures, and presentations.
Cribb is jailed on a manslaughter charge after Sonja Jennette Skipper, 10, was killed when struck by a car driven by Fred Cribb in Tabor City area. Witnesses say Cribb appeared intoxicated. mayor W A Williams testified to seeing the child and Cribb near the scene and Cribb’s license had been revoked. Bond set at 5000. awaiting Grand Jury action.
The Woman's Society of Christian Service at Saint Paul Methodist Church will hold a rummage and bake sale on Saturday in the former Reece's Jewelry building on Main Street. Items include clothing and baked goods such as pies and cake. Proceeds go to the church building fund.
D. P. Williams, 57, farmer of Whiteville route 3, died Friday at 8 p m after a brief illness. Funeral at Clarenton Baptist church Sunday at 2 p m by Rev. Clyde Prince. Burial in Mt. Siani cemetery. World War I veteran and lifelong Clarendon area resident. Survivors: wife Betty Benton. two sons D. J. and Donnie Ray. four daughters Marveleen Vernell Willow Faye and Dian. three brothers Chester Josh Vester. three sisters Mrs J Noealey of Lumberton Mrs Tommine Cribb and Mrs Susan Simmons, all of Whiteville route 3.
Mount Olive School opens Thursday August 24 at 8:00 a.m. with Mrs J L Winstead as principal. About 140 students expected. first month hours 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. observed, then operates on regular schedule.
The Tabor City and Columbus County Schools begin Wednesday at 8 30 with a short day for white students through Friday. Lunches cost 20 cents, milk extra. about 1300 students enrolled. Birth certificates required for new entrants six by Oct 1, 1950. Fees vary by grade, plus optional home economics agriculture typing. Colored school also opens 8:30 with shortened white schedule to 2:30.
