Syracuse prepares for a grand Fourth with bicycle and foot races, a Wayne versus Syracuse Giants baseball game at 2:30, a Syracuse Band concert, and an evening fireworks display after a day of public festivities and subscriptions by local merchants.
A schoolhouse yard event by the Band Oncefit raised 20 for a new baritone town with rain forcing the sale indoors. Ladies served ice cream and cake while the band played popular selections, earning praise for community support despite weather.
The 8th year class program takes place Friday evening July 3 1896 at the Church of God in Paoinauwe. It features songs by choruses solos and readings including Evangeline and The Galden River with addresses from County Superintendent Geo Worley. Diplomas are presented by Miss Myrtle Bushong and a quartet performs Good Night.
Syracuse town trustees enact license system for selling intoxicating liquors and for keeping billiard tables and nine pin alleys. Applicants pay fees, file petitions with location and liquor types, and licenses run one year from county approval. Violations incur fines up to ten dollars per offense after July 1, 1896.

Beaversville shopkeeper claims Mr Geaillouette owed his life to Dr King’s New Discovery after failing to respond to other physicians during influenza. He says after using three bottles the patient recovered enough to be about again and urges readers to obtain the remedy from Miller & Bushoug’s.
