Milton B. Wells, jailed for the Jennie Waiters murder in Elkhart, hanged himself in Goshen jail. The Goshen Times reports he staged the death with improvised rope, then escaped into death as guards found him. A coroner’s verdict followed, noting the maniacal ramblings in a final statement.
Knights of Pythias Kosciusko Lodge No 230 Syracuse held Decoration Day services at two cemeteries. Members boarded the steamer Anna Jones for a procession from Crow’s Landing to Conkling Hill and back, with funeral marches and impressive services for H F Howard and B F Crow. The voyage drew many Syracuse residents and reflected growth of the order.
