Thomyris the Queen of the Massagetae Behead Cyrus
The legend places Thomyris on the Tian Shan slopes south of the Jaxartes where her tribe valued gold over iron. Cyrus invaded Thomyris lands in 529 B.C. and was beheaded by the renowned queen whose head is shown in the artwork. Her triumph over Cyrus is celebrated with oriental slaves in blue breeches.
