Move 10 Make Kin Pay Keep of Convict
Albany February 1 Legislation to let the state department of corrections seek reimbursement from families of convicts for inmate maintenance was announced today by Assemblyman Abbett Lew Moffat Republican chairman of the joint resistance wate committees. The Me mor and budget plan would require the commissioner to act at his discretion in proper cases. Last year the department collected over 2950.00 in reimbursements under a 5101,069 appropriation. The measure would carry a 5000 appropriation and implement committee recommendations. A director of the budget would survey special services to determine self-supporting potential and reimbursement to the state for maintenance of inmates in institutions under social welfare. The bill also seeks elimination of the mechanical ventilation requirement in public school facilities and suspends further operation of the sewer authority pending ratification of the St Lawrence treaty with Canada. Localities would be required to submit claims and vouchers for reimbursement within six months of expenditure by staff.
