French Seize German Husband of an American Woman
The American Export Nuer Exochorda arrived with 172 passengers and Marseille reports that two Germans were seized for wartime internment. One was Joseph Wagner a 39 year old oil firm construction engineer and husband of a U S citizen living in Memphis Texas. A 17 year old with the surname Wallenburger was also taken. Captain Wenzel Habel protested but French admiral ordered the removals. Wagner had lived in the United States for 26 years and claimed U S citizenship papers.

Ship Flying Irish Flag Sunk by Submarine
London reports the 9456 ton motor vessel Inverlivey was sunk September 11 by a German submarine after its master said she flew the Irish flag. The sub claimed the ship carried contraband. Survivors were picked up by the American tanker FR G Stewart and taken to Le Havre.
