Thousands of unclaimed items found on Syracuse Transit buses were sold at Waits Auction House. The sale included umbrellas purses gloves and jewelry with blind bids and a chance to recover lost belongings.
Police swooped on a rear room of Harry's Luncheonette at 135 W Onondaga St arresting nine men in a midnight dice game. About $545 and gambling paraphernalia were seized along with parlay tickets and a fish bowl. Names and ages of the arrested men are listed with streets of residence. Concluded on Page 10.
New York wholesale food index fell on Sept. 28 to 6.70, the year’s low since March 9 at 6.61. The measure, covering 31 commonly used foods, was 6.82 last week and 6.93 a year ago, with a yearly high of 87.36 on July 13. Oats, barley, bellies, sugar, milk, potatoes, prunes and lambs rose, while wheat, corn, hams, lard, butter, cheese, cotton seed oil, raisins, steers and hogs declined.
