Frank Fay, state and screen star, asked Actors Equity to investigate five Broadway stars who attended a leftist meeting that attacked the Catholic Church. Fay, a national council member, called the conduct inexcusable and urged a full inquiry into the stars representing their shows at the rally backed by Communist elements.

The nation faced escalating labor tension as about 28 000 garment workers on the east coast walked out for a 15 cent hourly increase. Officials warned the walkout could grow to 196 000 workers, with up to 500 000 idle in 24 hours, while the Labor Department and related agencies considered seizure options and monitored more than 200 strike petitions filed with the NLRB. New York tally topped idle workers, followed by Michigan, Pennsylvania, Oregon and New Jersey, as strikes spread across half the states.
An eye witness account describes an execution by Japanese forces with guards, two riflemen per victim, and medical staff present. Victims Hallmark Farrow and Spatz were bound to crosses, shot in the head, and their bodies were cremated before the ashes were stored and later found.
Missouri Senator Donnell declared the Senate is not subordinate to the President in a floor reply to a White House statement. He argued the President’s remarks imply the Senate failed to perform its duties and rejected the notion that Senate action is dictated by the President. Rios prepared for a planned visit to Santiago.
