Onondaga crusade for freedom opens at 7 30 P M in Clinton Square with torch lighting and pageantry. Organizer says weather will not dampen enthusiasm as campaign aims to reach every farm and home to secure freedom declarations and contributions over the next seven days.
Senate hearings opened on General George C. Marshall nomination as Secretary of Defense. Senator Saltonstall urged the general be free of the “stooge” charge and affirmed he would serve in his own right. Republicans pressed if Marshall was pro-Acheson while Democrats sought straight answers on policy affiliations.
The United Nations General Assembly meets at Flushing Meadow to discuss East West differences with 1300 delegates. Notable figures include Bevin Schuman and Acheson. Andrei Vishinsky rushes to press for seating Communist China. The U.S. weighs aid plans and a recovery program pegged around 200 million dollars for South Korea.
Dr Hermann Sander led a 50 man posse in Hooksett New Hampshire to search woodlands for his nurse missing since a walk with her dog. Authorities said the young woman, described as attractive blond, had shown nervous behavior and had eaten little for days. Her father reported she returned home briefly and then headed back toward the woods with her dog Laddie. The case centers on the famed mercy murder trial involving Dr Sander.
