Special education teacher Ralston Voeltz of Fayetteville was jailed on felony charges after allegedly abducting and assaulting a 43 year old woman on July 26. Police say he dragged her to his car, brandished a knife, and forced sex acts at Regency Towers before the victim escaped. Voeltz was arrested after officers learned he had reported to Nottingham High School.
Miss America contestant Kristy Lynn Bauer faces protests from American Indians who say her interpretive buckskin routine beneath a burial scaffold insults Native culture. Bauer defends the act as honoring Native American heritage and plans to perform at the national pageant opening Monday. Francis Whitebird, Indian affairs head, condemns the cemetery setting and calls the routine inappropriate.
Hillary Rodham Clinton’s Arkansas law license lapsed after she did not pay a $50 annual fee and faces a $50 late renewal penalty. A White House spokesman said she was unaware of the suspension and had been on inactive status since leaving the practice.
St John Fisher College in Pittsford near Rochester launches The Fisher Commitment a program requiring freshmen to join activities complete an internship map career goals and graduate with at least a 2.75 GPA The college president William Pickett promises graduates will receive a job offer within six months or the college will pay $400 per month up to $5,000 until employment is secured.
Nicole Brown Simpson's estate transfers guardianship of Sydney and Justin to Nicole's parents, with potential return if OJ Simpson is acquitted in the slayings. Court papers show guardianship agreed last month and expected approval soon. Also, a man jailed for defying a grand jury in a related case warns of threats if he testifies.
