Drowning Suspected In Kyser Lake Death

Michael Bathrick a 21 year old man from Red Hook arrived at his parents camp near Dolgeville and planned a quick swim Friday night. He disappeared after diving into Kyser Lake about 7 50 p m and his body was recovered before 1 a m. Coroner awaiting autopsy to determine exact cause. Police continue investigation with unclear reasons for his disappearance.

French planes aid Chad forces at Oum Chalouba outpost

French air force Jaguar bombers buzzed Libyan and rebel troops to aid Chadian forces in repulsing an attack on the Oum Chalouba garrison 400 miles northeast of N'Djamena. Government claims of 800 attackers killed and 400 captured could not be independently confirmed. Western sources noted heavy competing reports.

Fair aims to set attendance record at Labor Day fair

The 1983 New York State Fair ends its run with a Labor Day Weekend program at the grandstand featuring tractor pulls demolition derby and stock car racing. Attendance stands at 481 731, about 47 000 above last year’s pace as 200 entrants expected in the final National Tractor Pullers Association stop. Boss Hog will crush cars on the track while the weekend also includes a $15 000 purse for the Modified Auto Race and a $3 000 demolition derby prize.
