Climber Dies After Fall in Pendleton County Cave
Franklin West Virginia police report 22 year old Robert W Keplinger of Keyser fell 165 feet to his death while climbing a rope in a Pendleton County cave. He descended 15 feet from the cave mouth when the rope slipped as he tried to return to the top. Keplinger had entered the cave with four Keyser companions to locate a ledge for possible descent. The rope had been set by National Spellogical Society members attending their annual reunion in Franklin. The body was recovered from the cave floor.
