Mrs. Mary Long, 55, of 303 Hellen St, received minor injuries in a two car crash at Collingwood Ave and Tyson Pl. She was treated at Memorial Hospital and released. The Soeder car, driven by William J. Soeder, 45, of 125 Midland Ave, tipped onto its side after colliding with Robert J. Doran’s, 28, of 152 Circle Rd, vehicle at the intersection.

Oil City Safety Review Weighs Fire Prevention Measures

Bottle hurling injures girl on Midland Avenue
Jean Kelley, eight, of 723 South Ave, was treated at Syracuse General Hospital for a leg laceration after glass from a broken bottle struck her. She and companions were walking on Midland Ave when three boys on bicycles rode by and one threw the bottle on the pavement.

Gar Passenger Hurt Aged Sailor Faces Traffic Charges
A Marlius sailor home on leave, Douglas A. Briggs, 19, was charged with reckless driving and driving with a suspended license after a wreck on Manlius Jamesville Road. His companion Winfield D. Combs, 19, was seriously injured and taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. Briggs’s car left the road, hit an embankment, severed a utility pole, and slid off. A second crash on Erie Boulevard injured Marge Lasher, 39, and sent her husband George Lasher, 44, to Crouse-Irving Hospital. George was later released.

VA Hospital staff donates blood to Syracuse drive
VA Hospital employees contributed 132 pints of blood last month to the Syracuse Blood Donor Drive. George O. Pratt, the hospital manager, announced 164 workers volunteered, though many were deferred for medical reasons. The VA has about 500 employees, with 80 percent disabled veterans among them.

Work Begins On Eastern Phone Cable
Work is underway on a seven mile telephone cable project expanding service in Syracuse toward De Witt. R G Phelps of New York Telephone says the line will serve rapidly developing areas and help future central office connections on East Genesee Street. The $10 million effort should finish by early next summer with sections already in service. The project includes up to 4 242 wires in some sections and mixed pole and underground installation. Local residents facing flood relief are urged to support Red Cross efforts at 749 South Warren Street.

Polio cases rise as city hospital admits two more patients
Two new polio cases were reported by the City Health Department bringing local admissions to 40 for the year. The latest patients are a 7 year old boy from Fayetteville and a 27 year old woman from East Syracuse, raising local cases to six and 34 from outside the city.
