California towns top national smart spots list
The October American Demographics ranking places Stanford as the most degreed community in the United States with 90.9 percent of residents 25 and older holding at least a bachelor’s degree, with Portola Valley and nearby Bay Area towns also among the top 101. California leads with 14 top listings, while New York and Massachusetts follow. Stanford’s high education level coexists with modest per capita income due to student populations, and experts note the study reflects concentration of universities and tech industry.
