Police blotter details purse theft and stabbings across city

A west side purse snatching left a woman injured near Glyde Avenue around noon, while a teenager was attacked on Rich Street and stopped by a woman who fired a warning shot. A suspect, Ray, is sought for the stabbing on South Avenue. Fire at the Robert Hoose home on Star Route was contained by Otisco Valley firefighters.

Special ed pupils embrace mobile Apple computer bus

In Wampsville a special education teacher and her class of nine, ages 5 to 9, share a roving Apple IIc lab on a converted school bus. Sixth graders from the district assist with one on one instruction as the bus visits six elementary schools, the junior high and high school, enabling each child to work at his learning level with praise and new challenges. Concerns remain about boredom and attention when the bus is parked.

Court Clerks Take Oath of Office

Robert J. Sise officiated at the oath ceremony for newly elected officers of the New York State City and District Court Clerks Association. The event, part of a two day fall agenda at the downtown Holiday Inn, named Mrs. A. Lee Gagnon as first woman president and Mrs. Carmela Peppone as Syracuse City Court chief clerk representative.

Mae E Haley Dies at 74 in Syracuse

Mae E Haley of 833 E Brighton Ave died Friday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital. Born in South Bay, she lived in Syracuse most of her life and retired from the Syracuse credit department. A St James Church communicant, she belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society and Legion of Mary. Vittorio Barbieri 83, of Soverato Italy, died Oct 23 after a short illness. Retired farmer. Survived by wife Luigia and four sons and a daughter in Italy, two sons Luigi and Gabriele and two daughters Jenny Marschner and Theresa Fricano, all of Syracuse, plus 26 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Peter Cree 70 Massena Resident Dies at Hospital

Peter Cree of Hogansburg died Friday night at Massena Memorial Hospital after illness. Calling hours set at Donaldson Funeral Home 7 to 10 p.m. tonight and 2 to 4 and 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Services Monday at 2:30 p.m. in St. Regis Catholic Church with burial in the parish cemetery. Survived by four sisters Elizabeth Love Louise Rein Hattie Young Anna Costello and four brothers Joseph John Richard Robert, all of Syracuse area. He was an ironworker in the Riseuserea until illness ended his work.

Dexter man Karl J. Fudala dies at 60 in Watertown

Karl J. Fudala, 60, of Dexter died Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Watertown. Services planned Monday at St. Elizabeth Seton Church in Dexter with burial in Dexter Cemetery. UC Berkeley professor Theodore Vermeulen dies at 67

Theodore Vermeulen, a University of California Berkeley chemical engineering professor and authority on chemical recovery and purification, died Friday at age 67. He helped develop improved water desalination and purification processes and recently worked on new methods for egal liquefaction.

Felix B. Wold 77 a retired Associated Press newsman who covered events including the 1967 Detroit race riots died Monday He began his wire service career in Minneapolis in 1939 transferred to Detroit in 1943 and retired in 1968.
