Medical examiners from two states started reviewing denial records to verify if a skeleton found in dense brush in northeastern Pennsylvania is the former Teamsters president Jimmy Hoffa. The skeleton bore expensive gold dental work suggesting a notable identity.
Israel announces end of government control on currency and removal of foreign currency limits for travellers and investors. Finance Minister Simha Ehrlich says the move aims to foster a free market and attract foreign investment, while announcing subsidy cuts and a gasoline price rise. Inflation is projected to approach last year's rate.
Eastman Kodak Co. gave a record $50,000 incentive to George Wheten for a method to ship fresher batteries, film, and flashes with cameras. The plan lets dealers receive ready to use components, replacing the earlier practice of packing batteries and film after cameras were made and stored at a distribution center.
The U S auto industry led by General Motors Ford and Chrysler posted a 702.2 million third quarter profit up 36 percent from a year ago and more than double the prior year. Nine month profits total 3 89 billion the highest in auto industry history Ford chairman Henry Ford II cited strong earnings as the year’s main driver.
General Motors reports a quarterly record of 8.8 billion in worldwide sales and 1.47 million units sold, with a 402 million third quarter profit. Ford shows a quarter profit of 266.5 million, while Chrysler earnings fall 55 percent from a year ago due to late subcompact models. American Motors plans to announce its Q3 results early next month.
At Agway's 18th annual meeting panel, William Brier of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives warned that President Carter's energy program could raise the energy portion of food costs by as much as 35 percent by 1980. He noted energy now accounts for 5 to 10 percent of food costs and that U.S. agriculture is highly energy intensive.
Maurits Caransa, 61, a prominent hotel and club owner, was seized after a struggle outside the Continental Club as he left a bridge game. A caller claimed West Germany's Red Army Faction was responsible. No injuries reported amid related bombings in Europe.

His team won first in an 80 team national engineering contest. He holds bachelor and master degrees from Buffalo State College where he also teaches part time.
The House approved raising the earnings limit for retirees 65 to 72 and removing it by 1982, allowing seniors to earn unlimited wages without losing benefits. The plan increases payroll taxes and aims to keep relative living standards. opponents warn of windfalls and unemployment shifts.

Washington UPI reports daylight saving ends this weekend as clocks fall back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday. The extra hour is temporary and will be regained next spring when daylight saving resumes.
