Governor Dewey told a Buffalo audience he expects a landslide win in New York on November 5, claiming a 500,000 to 1,000,000 vote margin. He attacked the Workmen’s Compensation administration and contrasted his record with the Truman era, saying corruption was cleaned out and progress made.
The U S Weather Bureau forecasts fair and warm conditions today with a high near 74 and a low around 47. Sunday extends the mild trend with partly cloudy skies near the coast and cooler interior, record highs and lows noted from prior years.

An agreement to end the 26 day old shipping strike on the East and Gulf Coasts was reached Saturday between shipowners and the AFL Masters Mates and Pilots Union. Ratification by members was to be voted in New York and other ports, with ship movements hoped by Tuesday.
Helmeted police dispersed the largest mass film strike demonstration in Hollywood after union confab alleged loss of sole set construction rights. About 2,500 pickets convened at a street intersection then moved to Columbia, R K O, Paramount and Technicolor studios. Police arrested over 100 leaders on illegal parading charges as 500 officers stood by.
