Douglas Youngs found his 1946 two seater airplane after it took off with him Monday and traveled 65 miles before landing in a 35 foot poplar tree at Star Lake. Youngs aims to recover Old Dollar without further damage, saying a careful downing is needed rather than a straight drop. A man located the wreck this Wednesday.
Steven Billmyer reports that developer Robert Congel entered with a competing offer for the Dey Brothers four stores, prompting Ned Munley to pull out after learning the bid was at least 1 million higher. The talks were close to finalization before Congel’s move, with the price estimated between 15 and 25 million dollars.

U S law enforcement says Iranian speedboats use Johnson outboard motors from Outboard Marine Corp. Agents served a warrant in Waukegan Illinois, and customs intercepted a shipment to Iran marked as Johnson engines. The seven month probe linked engines found in a boat shown in Boston, with a freight flow through Frankfurt.
President Reagan, already shaped by the Iran Contra affair, is set for a first White House news conference since March 19. Marlin Fitzwater announced an East Room briefing at 9 p.m. EDT to field reporters questions on the volatile market and Persian Gulf tensions.
The three major networks and CNN will air Reagan's news conference live at 8 p.m. EDT. It is his first since June 11 and second formal White House briefing this year. ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN also plan to start Game 5 of the World Series between the Cardinals and Twins at 8:25 p.m. local time, but the commissioner delayed Game 5 until after the news conference.
Onondaga County District Attorney Richard A. Hennessy Jr. denied defrauding the IRS over personal use of county cars. Legislator Ronald Stout attacked him, calling for resignation and accusing him of law violations, while detailing suspicions of improper trips to work sites and back.
