National Weather Service at Hancock Airport says tomorrow will be partly sunny with a high near 60 to 65 and a 10 percent chance of rain. Tonight’s rain chance is near zero with fair skies. Winds will be 5 to 15 mph, variable. The extended outlook shows scattered showers Sunday and Monday, then fair Tuesday. Lows around 40 to 45 and highs near 60.
A methane gas leak in a northern coal mine killed 32 miners and trapped 80 others, with about 800 workers in the mine when the gas began flowing into the shaft after noon. Most were above the seepage and escaped.

Washington UPI reports revised Civil Aeronautics Board rules take effect today. Passengers arriving after the normal check in time are no longer guaranteed a no smoking seat, ending the prior practice that favored late arriving non smokers. The changes leave smoker and non smoker rights otherwise unchanged.
The U S Commission on Civil Rights says local civilian review procedures and tougher federal laws are needed to curb police misconduct. In a 173 page report reviewing Houston and Philadelphia cases, the panel warns remedies are inadequate and urges Congress to authorize civil suits against departments with pervasive abuse. It also seeks stronger internal investigations and expanded Civil Rights Division staff amid budget cuts.
Congress moves to reverse a summer cut by restoring the $122 monthly minimum Social Security benefit for most recipients. The Senate vote 95 to 0 supports restoring this aid for over 2.5 million retirees while pairing rules on sick pay with payroll tax. A House-Senate conference will reconcile differences as President Reagan had shifted positions.
