A public auction at Split Rock offered 60 Illinois steers arriving by box car from the Midwest. Prices rose from 20 to 24 dollars per hundredweight after meat controls ended by presidential order, with buyers seeking a hearty corn fed beef choice today at 2 PM.
Meat flowed into major livestock markets as hogs appeared in larger numbers than a year ago. Prices stayed above OPA ceilings where supplies existed. Indianapolis led hog markets with 16 000 head, Chicago 13 000, Sioux City 10 000 in a total of 95 900 hogs across 12 markets, up sharply from last week and last year. Cattle arrivals boomed with Omaha at 12 000, Chicago 9 500, Sioux City 8 500, signaling extended shipments next week.
A head on crash between a westbound troop train and an eastbound Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad freight train near Morton Mississippi sent at least six people to hospitals. Local rescuers and authorities treated injured riders and secured the scene.

Nuernberg jail commandant says Goering may have received cyanide from his attorney during the final trial session. A six man board is investigating suspected suicide by cyanide, with the attorney Dr Otto Stahmer named as a person of interest and questioned after Goering’s death. No arrests have been made and the board has interviewed over 20 officers with access to the death block.
Ex Reichsmarshal Hermann Goering killed himself in his prison cell by swallowing cyanide as ten other Nazi leaders faced hangings after the international tribunal sentenced them to death. An American guard watched, unaware he would act. The plan unfolded just before the parade to the scaffold.
In Nuernberg a dead Goering is brought to the jail courtyard as the last of ten condemned Nazis faces execution. Col. Gen. Alfred Jodl and Arthur Seyss Inquart were next in line before their sentences were carried out.

MERNBERG UP none of the actual hangings were photographed. The official photographer a U S Army lieutenant photographed the heads of all 10 men after their bodies were taken from the gallows on stretchers.
Two sealed vans left Nuernberg prison at 5 50 A M with the bodies of suicide Hermann Goering and ten hanged satellites. Capt. Samuel Binder said the burial place would remain secret and guessed part of the journey was by air. The convoy was guarded by two jeeps with police and submachine guns.
