No tax hike budget passes with 317 million plan

The County Legislature approved a 1982 no-tax-rate-increase budget of 317 million with 15 voting for and 8 against after brief debate. The plan holds last year’s county tax rate but raises property taxes in Cicero DeWitt Fabius Geddes LaFayette Manlius Marcellus Pompey Salina Skaneateles Tully and Syracuse while other towns decrease. The pay raise for legislators was denied 17-7, amidst claims the raises would strain the hold-the-line budget and amid election timing concerns. The total package includes a 3,000 bump for the Rape Crisis Center and warns of possible midyear budget rework.
