A sunny day is forecast for the East with warm temperatures. Storms are expected to bring rain and snow to the Rockies while high pressure over the Tennessee River Valley keeps skies clear in the eastern third of the region.
The extended forecast calls for scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Great Lakes and central plains, snow in the Rockies and higher elevations, and light rain along the Pacific Northwest. Forecasters warn of a normal winter, with La Nina and El Nino out, and more days below freezing nationwide. Americans may use heaters about 12 percent more this winter.
