Douglas Monro, 26, a British seaman from London, accused of burglariously breaking into Buckingham Palace and stealing a dispatch box. Scotland Yard said the box was recovered intact in a nearby garbage can with no state secrets inside, and Monro will be charged tonight. It remained unclear if he is the man found on palace grounds earlier.

On her death remainder divided equally among five sons Earl Carrier Winchester Mass and Vernoni Carrier New York City and others.
A Northwest Airlines passenger plane crashed on the outskirts of Almelund, killing five of the six aboard. The lone survivor was seriously wounded and taken to St. Croix Hospital in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin. The craft narrowly missed a house with four residents. None of the passengers could be identified immediately. Almelund lies about 50 miles northeast of Minneapolis.
Frederick Gambrell a 50 year old postal worker fired for stealing a three cent stamp won a federal court dismissal and seeks a new job. He served 29 years at the post office and faced a potential six month sentence, saying he had no excuse and that medical bills forced his family to live in a cheap hotel. He admitted keeping loose stamps from letters while working as a mail pickup man and estimated about seven dollars worth stolen over three years.
Wet and windy conditions persist in the Syracuse region with rain and a low of 38 tonight. Northwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, while clearing and a slight uptick to around 58 degrees tomorrow afternoon offer only a brief respite before several days of below normal temperatures persist.
A nosey skunk with a jar on its head disrupted bus patrons and residents near Parkside Apartments, 301 Columbus Ave. Three youths smashed the jar. the creature wandered the area, briefly took shelter with Emery Countequian, and was then returned to the street.
Polio outbreak continues as seven new cases are reported by Dr. Clealand A. Sargent, raising the total to 247. Of new patients, 108 are from Syracuse. others live in nearby towns. The latest cases include a six-year-old girl, a seven-year-old boy, and a four-year-old boy from Syracuse along with several children from Fayetteville Oswego Camillus and Onondaga County.
Vice President Barkley lauded Secretary of State Acheson as the most conscientious man in the United States in a Spokane audience. He defended the administration over Korea, saying Truman blundered into a wonderful victory, and tied Democrats to responsibility and pride.
A woman and five of her six children were found slain with throats cut in their Cal fie home early today. Police search the wild countryside for the father, Raymond Armanasco, a three year old milkman, missing since night.
U N forces press hard against North Korea as the battleship Missouri leads a massive naval air assault along the east coast from Chongjin to Yanchon. B 29s hit rail and highway targets near Namsi while cavalry forces reach Kumchon north of the 38th parallel amid heavy street fighting.
Report from Wonsan details a mass killing by Communist forces. A path near Wonsan Prison saw 530 South Korean sympathizers executed, many students, as families wailed by open graves. The assassin's motive linked to alleged anti regime actions.
The price per gallon rose from 12.7 to 13.2 cents, with major oil firms planning aligned increases. Gulf Oil and Clipper Oil followed, Clipper set to take effect Monday, and kerosene jumped to 14.1 cents per gallon. Higher New York purchase prices and transportation costs cited as reasons.
