Ragged workers trudge through Stalingrad rubble to the tractor factory rebuilt with American aid. The plant, once a tank maker, now aims to produce 6,000 tractors this year while enduring poor light and disorganization. Workers live and thrive around factory life, earning about 360 dollars yearly in 1940.
President Truman will address the nation in a 10 PM radio fireside chat to outline plans for restoring meat to the American table. Elmer S. Hurt, 22, a former Navy pharmacist's mate awarded the Bronze Star, confessed to stealing $725,880 from an American Express branch in Miami. He lured by his fiancée, led police to a hotel room and a locker with $29,000 in cash and $697,000 in money orders, and agreed to return to Miami to face charges. Police expect a hearing Monday and his extradition to Miami.

A Polish black market operator killed a German policeman and two passersby in central Frankfurt before dying by suicide. The attacker was an inmate from a displaced persons camp.
General Joseph W. Stilwell, age 63, commander of the Sixth Army, was reported very weak early today as his fight for life continued at Letterman General Hospital after a turn for the worse yesterday. He grew still weaker last night per hospital authorities.
