An Austral Airlines DC-9 crashed and exploded near Nuevo Berlin in Rio Negro, Uruguay, killing all 75 aboard. Brig. Vazquez confirmed no survivors. Her candlelit cake triggered the fire alarm. five engines and two ladder companies responded as Eddi Carlin recalled guests in the doorway and Lonnie Lamb joked about the birthday spark.
