City urges 70 degree heat in rentals during cool weather

Syracuse consumer officials remind landlords to keep building interiors at 70 degrees from September 15 to June 15 when outside temps fall below 55. CAO director notes fall is tricky and suggests space heaters if heating fails. Violations can bring up to 150 dollar fine or 15 days jail. CAO offers a landlord tenant guide and contact at 473 3240.

Police identify Matthews as gunman in 1982 tavern robbery shootout

Syracuse officer Larry Bonanni testified that Michael Matthews, 30, was the man who fired at him during the Pete’s Inn robbery and shootout on Sept 10, 1982. Matthews is charged with attempted murder and multiple robbery counts, facing up to life in prison if convicted.

Sentencing Delayed for Crystal Photo Lab Owner Petrov

Anthony Petrov, owner of Crystal Photo Lab in North Syracuse, convicted of violating federal obscenity standards by processing and mailing films depicting child pornography, awaits sentencing after a six week trial. Judge Howard Munson rescheduled sentencing for 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, with potential fines up to 60,000 dollars and a 55 year prison term. Two other employees, James McCann and Douglas Pinnell, were cleared by the jury.
