A panel of 45 scientists concluded the Shroud of Turin image shows a crucified man but cannot prove it is Christ's burial cloth. The three year study found the cloth's chemistry and image remain unresolved, denying forgery but not confirming authenticity. Tests included X rays, fluorescence, imaging, pollen and blood analyses.

Mississippi Valley was cooled by a United Press International weather report. Showers and thunderstorms scattered across Mississippi eastern Missouri and western Illinois as a cold front advanced into the region. Fog reduced visibility from the valley to eastern North Dakota and South Dakota western Minnesota and Arkansas. Cloudy skies covered the southeast except Florida remained clear. Rain drizzle and fog were widespread elsewhere with clearing in the Great Plains. Clear conditions prevailed along the middle Atlantic coast and parts of the northeast. The Ohio Valley and Great Lakes saw increased cloudiness while Colorado to southern California enjoyed clear skies. Western Oregon and Northern California continued showers and Northern Nevada reported a few. Early morning temps ranged from 28 in Bradford Pennsylvania to 84 in Corpus Christi Texas.
