Nonfatal HIV strain found in transfusion cluster

Crowds Press for Jobs as Onondaga Budget Hearing Proceeds

More than 1,100 union leaders workers and taxpayers urged Onondaga County lawmakers to protect jobs and services during a seven hour budget hearing that drew 1,174 attendees and 170 speakers. County Executive Pirro proposed a 691.6 million 1993 spending plan with a 9.6 percent property tax increase and 359 layoffs while lawmakers consider 50 more layoffs and further cuts. Firefighter stole $17,000 in Volney fire fund loot

Oswego County volunteer firefighter Eric M Howell, 25, was arraigned in Fulton City Court on felony third degree grand larceny for embezzling about $7,290 from bingo profits and $9,615 from a slot machine style game, saying bankruptcy and medical bills pushed him to steal while co chairing bingo proceeds. He blamed health problems a drinking problem and said he has joined Alcoholics Anonymous.
