Americans conquer Everest summit without flags
Two Americans, Dr Chris Chandler of Seattle and Bob Cormack of Boulder, reached the 29,028 foot summit of Everest via the southeast ridge. They spent about 30 minutes on top and descended to Camp 6, later to base, after a nine hour ascent. The flags were in the pack of their Sherpa guide Ang Phurba who dropped out due to oxygen equipment issues.

BELLEVILLE Kan AP A man convicted of threatening former President Nixon was captured here early today after he walked away from a Fort Worth Texas work release program one day before President Ford was to visit Texas Republic County Sheriff Robert Lewia said Franklin David Kirk 35 was in the Republic County jail after being picked up by a Belleville policeman while hitchhiking last night Kirk's escape early yesterday gave law enforcement authorities some anxious moments with President Ford making a two day visit to Dallas only 30 miles from the Federal Correctional Institute in Fort Worth

Murder suspect to face testing in Watertown case
Fourteen year old Leon McClusky of Watertown is slated for psychiatric testing at Hilbrook Detention Center after arraignment on juvenile delinquency charges. Auburn Man charged in restaurant owner's killing
Steven Wejko 28 of 118 Cottage St is charged by district attorney’s office Auburn Police and state police in the July 24 killing of Sunset Restaurant owner George Sedor. Indictment alleges second degree murder first degree robbery and third degree burglary. Grand jury handed up the indictment after a two week hearing. A reward fund exceeding 4000 was set by the Cayuga County Hotel and Restaurant Association for information leading to the killer.
