Republicans push private school vouchers in Congress

Republicans gain ground on private school vouchers as they push federal money to send some poor city children to private or religious schools. Democrats denounce vouchers as undercutting public schools while pollsters note growing urban minority support. House debate centers on a Washington DC scholarship program for about 2000 students and broader subsidy proposals.
