Guardian Angels to patrol Syracuse streets in January

Cardinal Cooke Dies at 62 Leader of New York Archdiocese

Cardinal Terence J. Cooke, spiritual leader of about 2 million Catholics in the Archdiocese of New York, died of leukemia at 4:45 a.m. at his residence near St. Patrick Cathedral. Meno heads student driver probe in Syracuse district

Superintendent Lionel Meno leads an inquiry into how a 17 year old Nottingham high student, driving unlicensed, ferried eight classmates on a field trip that ended with the death of a 15 year old. The Jamesville DeWitt board ordered policy change shifting transport responsibility to schools to eliminate private vehicle use on field trips.

Engineer says Nine Mile 2 plant hurt by drugs and overruns

A former on site engineer alleges drug and alcohol use by workers at the Nine Mile 2 nuclear plant, claiming management ignored the issue to avoid union clash. Golding Wins Nobel Prize in Literature 1983

British author William Golding won the 1983 Nobel Prize for Literature for novels that illuminate humanity with realism and universal myth. Born Sept 19, 1911 in Cornwall, Golding is famed for Lord of the Flies and many other works noted for ambiguity and depth.
