Frederick Md Oct 3 The pump failed on C Lease Bussards farm. Bussard climbed into a 30 foot well and found a 200 pound hog on a ledge causing the pump to fail. Farm hands pulled the hog out in a sling.
In Rubio canyon Los Angeles on October 3 a group of 15 rock climbing club members caused confusion for pipeline workers. The crew advised each climber to use the canyon rim trail to avoid the scramble and maintain safety during the operation.
Kansas City report says a deputy checking hospital participation for the October 16 draft contacted a maternity infirmary. The reply stated a 21 day old was the oldest male in residence, and the deputy marked it as eligible.
In Skokie a wave of changes is underway including renaming the village from Niles Center to Skokie to shed a hick town image. Trustees ordered the name change and updates to clubs, Chamber of Commerce, postal guide, telephone directory, state maps, station lettering, and official letterheads.
John W. Davis, 1924 Democratic nominee, backs Wendell L. Willkie. Davis, a foe of the New Deal, declined to expand his endorsement beyond a prior Senate sub committee statement, and said he does not plan to campaign publicly for Willkie.
A night raid dropped incendiary bombs on Harrow in northwest London, burning the speech room and damaging a parish church roof. Nearby, another southeast suburb school, Alleyn's Dulwich, founded 1616, and Dulwich College, 1619, were also affected. Harrow, Rugby, and Eton are noted as England's historic public schools.
British Overseas Airways will resume service over French Indo-China calling at Tourane instead of Hanoi. Tourane lies on the coast about 275 miles south of Hanoi, the capital, according to a British broadcasting company announcement heard by NBC.
