Greened Penn Avenue Front Of White House Planned
The National Park Service will convert a 40-foot wide stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House into a green pedestrian plaza. The one-third mile area, closed to vehicles since May for security, will replace concrete barriers with beige planters and add grass with 20 feet of pavers on each side. Emergency access will be preserved, and cycling and skating will continue to occur on the street during the $13 million beautification.
