Threat of government seizure of all market bound livestock
Secretary Clinton P. Anderson warned a New Mexico cattlemen’s group that the government may seize all market bound livestock as meat remains scarce. He also announced removal of canned fruits juices nectars corn salmon oat cereals and rum from price controls, warning decontrol could cause feast and famine.

Turtle Lands in Ohio on record Perth to Ohio flight
The Navy plane Truculent Turtle landed in Columbus at 12 27 P M completing a Perth Australia to Ohio non stop flight of 11237 miles. The twin engined bomber with four crew and a kangaroo mascot set new records as it crossed the U S west coast and continued toward Des Moines for a further mark. The Navy reported the flight time about 43 hours 20 minutes averaging better than 200 miles an hour.

Snow Falls Early Marking 44 Year Record in Syracuse
Northern New York awoke to the season's first heavy snowstorm piling six to eight inches in places and setting a 44 year record in Syracuse for earliest snowfall. Malone suffered traffic gridlock as eight inches fell and trees blocked streets. The village of 9000 lost power after 4 AM with power and gas cuts from a broken four inch main. Snow also hit Saranac Lake Lake Placid and other towns with several inches, disrupting travel and utilities.
