Seoul reports say ground fighting in Korea halted as UN troops ordered not to fire unless attacked. Chinese forces reportedly received a similar order while some artillery remained cautious. By afternoon, front lines showed a lull with patrols avoiding contact and reports of a cease-fire statement dated November 23, 1951.

Joseph Stoecker, 15, says he steered while Ronald, 11, handled the gears, with the boys telling a wild tale of hitchhiking from Chillicothe to Lacon before their capture. They were found near Freeport at dawn hungry and crying.
In Richmond Virginia a mother, Mrs Florence Leake aged 47, drowned after jumping from a Cherry Street bridge into the icy canal in a bid to rescue her son, who had been captured by Chinese Communists. Her body was recovered shortly after the leap.

Retired Major General Charles A. Willoughby, once General MacArthur's intelligence chief, accused six U S newspaper men of inaccurate reporting on the Korean War. The AZ children of Howard Kerlin, a 65 year old retired farmer, returned for a family reunion at Chambersburg Hospital after he delayed surgery until seeing nine sons and eight daughters. He arrived Nov 10 for preoperative care. Mrs Kerlin sent word to all children. Most live in Western Pennsylvania. five traveled from Long Beach, California. Ages range 36 to 41.
Mrs Franklin D Roosevelt was named acting head for the United States delegation to the United Nations to replace ambassador Warren R Austin. Austin entered the American hospital in Neuilly for treatment of a sinus condition and is expected to be laid up for four or five days.
An all-out air raid drill emptied New York streets for several minutes as civil defense authorities staged a citywide blackout and shelter drill. Sirens wailed and pedestrians hurried to basements while trains paused and office workers sought shelter, with the city preparing for postwar alerts and safety procedures.
