Bobby Ray Long, ten, walked for the first time in two years in Tulsa on Thanksgiving Day. His right leg was mangled in a traffic accident and he used crutches to take his first steps. Doctors predict four more months before he can throw away the crutches.
Berlin reports the German news agency DNB says Germany will supply 110 million pounds of potatoes to France for civilian use and 600 thousand pounds have already been delivered.
Detroit November 25. Frank D. McKay Republican National Committeeman and former Michigan state treasurer faces multiple indictments in a mail fraud scheme centered on liquor purchases dating back to 1935. A third indictment involving McKay is under grand jury consideration as he and co defendants await arraignment. Isadore Schwartz and Fred Ehrmann are among those charged.
The Rescue of the Great Lakes Towing Company sent the lighter Rescue to assist the freighter Cheyenne, grounded at Rocky Mohawk Point about 20 miles west of Port Colborne Ontario. Escorted by a tug, it left Buffalo last night and marine officials expect arrival before daybreak. The Cheyenne owned by St Lawrence Steamship Buffalo and captained by J J Carson of Toronto was hard aground but not in immediate danger. It was en route from Erie Pennsylvania to Toronto with a coal cargo and ran aground Tuesday night in a snowstorm.
U S ski troops in Southbridge Massachusetts prepare for Alaskan maneuvers and wear eye-protective devices that absorb glare and prevent snow blindness. The eye-protectors were adopted after a study of the Russo Finnish campaign.
In Kansas at Sedan on November 28 a six month old bird dog lunged from an open car window when she spotted chickens. The hip injury will prevent her from hunting this season. At Martinsville Virginia on November 28 an informal sendoff for two Selective Service volunteers at the Patrick County courthouse turned into an oratorical barrage that eventually involved Representative.
Bureh remarked to the crowd that if they do not stop, they will all end up volunteering. The remark highlights concerns over voluntary service and collective action.
Chicago patrolmen John Weston and George Schulman freed two year old Sheldon Dunn from his locked bathroom without breaking in. They carved a notch in a pole, slipped it through the window, and unlocked the door. The child laughed and refused to unlock despite his mother's pleas.
Fifty policemen of the International Settlement force began a strike in Shanghai on November 28, with thousands more threatening to join. They demand pay increases to offset a 600 percent rise in rice costs since the Chinese-Japanese war began. officials indicated a raise likely to come in time to avert a total walkout.
