YMCA revival transforms failing Arts Goal school into YMCA division
The Metropolitan School for the Arts, near collapse after the Avenue of the Arts project failure, will be reborn next year as a YMCA division. President John M. Franz Jr says programs will rebound with expanded arts offerings for low income city children, aided by Hal Welsh of the YMCA. The staff has dwindled from 60 to three instructors as plans shift to integrate arts with YMCA programs and extend to non physically active teens and adults.
