Farm accident leaves 16-year-old with severe leg injuries
John Mero Jr. of Elbridge, 16, was pulled into a grain auger at a Skaneateles dairy farm. A blade bit into his right calf and left calf, severing tendons and muscle while a major artery was saved. He was flown to University Hospital on October 6. Doctors treated him with infection gel every two hours. His family credits responders and surgeon Dr Christopher Geel for saving his legs as he recovers in hospital on Thanksgiving Eve.
