A 31 year old watchman, Race of 656 S Warren St, is held without bail to Nov 29 for preliminary exam after alleged entry into Sharon Schindler’s apartment at 2 am. He allegedly beat her with fists and a flashlight and was identified by the victim who was taken to Memorial Hospital.
John J. Brann 89 of Lafayette dies after long illness in Crouse-Irving Hospital. Oldest tile and marble setter in area, 50 years in the trade, native of Syracuse. Survived by wife Mary A., daughter Mrs Arthur Jackson, three sons John J. Jr. Jesse S. and Raymond D. Brann, many grandchildren. Funeral 11 a.m. Friday at John G. Butler Funeral Home. Burial Onondaga Valley Cemetery. Calling hours today 7–9 p.m. and tomorrow 2–4 and 7–9 p.m.

Mrs. Mabel A. Thomas of 212 S Crouse Ave died of a heart attack at home yesterday. She was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital and survived by a sister and three nieces. Services Saturday at Bennett Funeral Home in Tarrytown with burial in Banks Cemetery. Francis E. Olson, 74, former resident of Mitchell Ave Mattydale, died today in Central Square. He lived 93 years in Mattydale and was a member of Centerville Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are two sons, two sisters, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services Friday at Sears Funeral Home in North Syracuse with Eastern Star rites tomorrow evening.

Widow Mrs Chupik of 107 Olive Street dies at home after arriving from Poland years ago. Survived by two daughters in Florida and Syracuse, three sisters and a brother in Poland, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services Friday at 8:30 a.m. at Giminski Funeral Home and 9 a.m. at Saint Peter and Paul Church. Burial in church cemetery with prayers tonight and tomorrow. Also noted is Mrs Hazel Kruger of Westvale who died yesterday in St Josephs Hospital aged 79. Survived by two sisters in St Petersburg Florida. Service Friday at 2:30 p.m. at John C Tindall Funeral Home with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
A Syracuse couple Sharon Jordan 23 and Frederick Jordan 25 pleaded guilty to lesser charges related to an alleged attack on Officer Frank Sardine in the 500 block of Erie Boulevard E. The wife paid 25 dollars for disorderly conduct while the husband was fined 100 dollars for third degree assault and 30 dollars restitution. Original charges included striking and kicking the officer.
Alfred Carl Juhl, 28, began a sentence in Attica State Prison of five to 10 years after pleading guilty to second degree grand larceny before Ontario County Judge Carrollton A. Roberts. Juhl was sentenced as a third offender and challenged a Cayuga County 1963 grand larceny conviction, seeking a hearing on the voluntariness of a statement used at trial. The judge advised a coram nobis proceeding in Cayuga County, noting that if the Cayuga conviction is set aside he would be returned to Ontario County for sentencing as a second offender.
Amicitia Scholarship Committee chairman Louis H. Mariani announced plans to award nine scholarships totaling $6000. Three awards of $1000 and six awards of $500 will be given in an open competition to all graduating seniors in city parochial and public high schools. Winners will be chosen for scholastic ability need and good citizenship. Applications available from principals or guidance counselors. Deadline March 15.
Thieves forced vent windows of two parked cars on the South Side yesterday and escaped with three sewing machines and a tool box. A Fairmount Sewing Center salesman reported three machines stolen from his car between 7 30 and 8 30 p m in the 1000 block of S McBride Street worth about 637 dollars. Earl Van Antwerp aged 41 of 179 W Matson Street reported a tool box with tools stolen from his car in the 500 block of Seymour Street between 4 and 9 p m valued around 300 dollars. A driver for Canteen Food and Vending Co Liverpool said 360 dollars worth of cigarettes were taken from his truck in the 400 block of FE Fayette Street.

Survived by two daughters Francis Rozyczko and Joseph Karaffa a son John Zobro Jr two sisters 19 grandchildren and a great grandchild. Requiem Mass at St Stephen's Church proceeded by viewing at Edward Wrobel Funeral Home. Burial in St Mary's Cemetery. Viewing 7 to 9 pm today and 2 to 4 and 7:45 to 9 pm.

Bruce Burton reviews the Tommy Finnan Company production of My Fair Lady at the Three Rivers Inn. The show opens strong with skillful acting dancing and singing. The reviewer notes comparisons to the film but praises the live stage energy and youthful vigor of the troupe.
WAER seniors swept all six live programing awards with 13 of 21 honors from 10 eastern stations. Hank Kahn won top live program award for Viet Nam editorial. Barbara Zipkin led women's live programing with top prize and third in women's writing. Tad James and Bob Einhorn placed second and third in men’s division.
Howard J. Tessier, 45, was assaulted in the 2300 block of James Street as he picked up a hitchhiker who demanded money. Tessier treated for a head wound at St Joseph's Hospital and released. The suspect fled after Tessier restrained him. Also noted Grady Alderman, 230-pound tackle, survivor of the original Vikings entry.
