Armed robbers hold hostage in Rochester standoff
A gunman and a partner robbed Bronke Smith Jewelers in Irondequoit and fled. One robber was killed in a face off as they tried to enter the Robert DiMatteis home to free the hostage. A Rochester Times Union reporter was taken hostage and released. Police wounded. one officer had surgery. The surviving gunman spoke to WHAM insisting he would surrender only with protection, fearing police brutality.
