Micro Glass, a family owned maker of glass trays for computer chip manufacturers, moves Tempe Arizona plant to its East Syracuse site at 6200 E Malloy Road. The company added six workers to 25 and plans five to six more, aided by a $53 000 grant from New York State Economic Development Department Industrial Effectiveness Program. Governor IEP head Larry Barker notes the program helps restore competitiveness of New York manufacturing.
The Associated Press reports President Clinton has gained momentum as the House set for a pivotal evening showdown on the North American Free Trade Agreement. An AP survey shows 209 members supporting, 183 opposed, with 14 leaning and 20 undecided, crossing party lines in a bid to pass tariffs and trade barriers elimination between the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
President Clinton edged toward victory on NAFTA after Florida lawmakers backed the pact in exchange for protections for tomato growers and other farm sectors. Pledges shield sugar citrus wheat and peanuts influenced at least three Oklahoma Texas lawmakers and overall farm-state support. Critics call the tactic cynical.
