Wet Showers Continue With Warmer, Sunny Breaks Expected

National Weather Service forecasts continued showers tonight with a low near 40 and a high around 50 tomorrow. Rain chances run 60 percent tonight and 30 percent tomorrow, with increasing clouds Thursday. Frigid Friday patterns bring more showers, and Saturday could see scattered flurries as the forecast cools.

Three shot dead in Wichita residence slayings

In Wichita Kansas police report two women and a small child were killed and another woman critically injured in an early morning shooting at a west side home. A suspect was arrested as authorities withheld victim names pending relatives notification.

Alaska Earthquake Shakes Anchorage Homer and Kenai

A moderate quake struck south central Alaska early this morning, rattling Anchorage Homer and Kenai. Preliminary magnitude 4.6 on the Richter scale, no damage or injuries reported, geophysicist John Sindorf of the National Weather Service Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said. The quake was too small to generate a tsunami.

Ithaca Journal names first black woman publisher

Pam Johnson, 37, named publisher of Gannett Ithaca Journal becoming the first black woman to head a general circulation daily newspaper. She succeeds Terry Hopkins and is the 10th woman publisher in Gannett. Johnson has been assistant to the publisher and previously worked at Courier-News, Chicago Tribune, and CBS stations.

Reagan to propose elimination of US and Soviet missiles in Europe

President Reagan was reported to be ready to propose a near total elimination or reduction of medium-range missiles in Europe. He will lay out the US position as talks begin in Geneva, timed ahead of Brezhnev’s visit to West Germany. A zero option could bar new missiles if the Soviets withdraw theirs, or a limited deal allowing Pershing 2 and cruise missiles in exchange for Soviet SS-20 cuts.
