Bellardini Faces 4 Year Sentence After Jury Verdict

A nine to three jury returned a verdict to Judge William Burke after about 5 1 2 hours of deliberation. Prosecutor William Fitzpatrick said Bellardini fired accidentally while Bellardini held a gun to Conley's chest. The key witness Ray Carroll testified Bellardini acted belligerently as the 22 caliber rifle discharged. Bellardini was convicted of the main charge but acquitted of second degree manslaughter.

Woman shot in face listed in fair shape

A Syracuse woman Ellen Whitehurst, 34, was hospitalized in fair condition after a man rushed into her South State Street apartment and shot her in the face with an automatic weapon. The assailant demanded money from her roommate who handed over the purse before he fled. The investigation and motive remain under police review.

Vocational Center to Host Open House

Central Technical-Vocational Center will hold an open house for parents and the community from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. The school offers one to three year occupational training programs and serves both public and private schools in the city. Students will demonstrate work across training areas.

Brewerton Man Charged With Assaulting Deputy

Richard Miller, 20, of Mascrat Bay Brewerton, faces charges after Deputy Gregory Duck was cut and required 10 stitches following a 2 30 a m stop for reckless driving. Miller allegedly attacked Duck at the intersection of South Bay Road and Lawrence Avenue and was jailed after arraignment.

Two held on drug charges in Sullivan Township

Two Bridgeport residents, Law rence R. Koegel, 22, and Karen M. Perks, 20, were arrested overnight in Sullivan on third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Koegel faces additional charges of resisting arrest, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and consuming an alcoholic beverage. both are jailed in Madison County on $20,000 bail.

Baby Born In Hospital Parking Lot In Mexico

Karen Ladd, 16, of Pump House Road in Mexico town, gave birth to a healthy 5 pound 10 ounce girl at 4 45 am in the parking lot of Crouse-Irving Memorial Hospital. Ed Wilburn says this was the second unusual delivery in a week by the McFee Ambulance company. Attendants Jackie Christman and Roger Irwin helped, marking Christman's third delivery and the ambulance firm’s sixth in nine years.

PTA Urges Raising Legal Drinking Age to 21

The New York state PTA at its 84th annual convention in Syracuse passed a resolution to raise New York’s legal drinking age from 18 to 21 and urged Albany lobbying. It also backed stronger emphasis on alcohol abuse in school health curricula and opposed liquor sales in non licensed stores to keep alcohol away from youths.

Cyclist Injured After High Speed Chase Crashes Into House

A 23 year old motorcyclist, Peter J Lang of 5170 Onondaga Road, was hospitalized in serious condition with head injuries after his bike slammed into the Raymond Cap pello residence at 2692 Warners Road Route 173. Geddes police pursued Lang at 9 20 p m for a traffic violation on Fay Road Taunton, then through Solvay to Milton Avenue before 173. The residence suffered minor damage and Lang was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment. Deputies aided by sheriff's deputies and Solvay and Camillus police departments.
