Alternate fuel status optimistic for winter supply
The Federal Energy Administration said the nation has enough alternate fuels to offset natural gas shortages if weather is normal. Nine states including North Carolina and Georgia could face temporary local shortfalls if cold weather hits, while substitutes like fuel oil and propane may raise winter costs by 550 to 650 million dollars. If cold spells persist, some industrial and electric utilities could see higher curtailments though overall inventories in heating oils and propane remain strong.

Winter Snow Eases as 5.9 Inch Accumulation Recorded
Overnight snowfall at Hancock Airport totaled 5.9 inches while Oswego County roads remained very slippery per State Police in Fulton. The Thruway and most main roads were clear though some slush. Onondaga County DPW operates 42 snow-removal vehicles focused in the north as City DPW runs two units handling city complaints. Smokey Bear dies at National Zoo after long service

Ford to Rule on Federal Pay Boosts
