Jobless rate rises to 7.9 percent in October

Kidnapers Free Olympic Rider After $2 Million Ransom
Hendrik Snoek, a reserve rider on West Germany's Olympic equestrian team, was released two days after being abducted from his Munster apartment. Police say the kidnapers demanded a $2 million ransom and delivered the payment at a prearranged point along the autobahn south of Munster before Snoek was freed near Herborn. A friend delivered the ransom package to the pickup point and signaled the abductors by blinking lights.
