Roach Los Angeles pioneer Hal Roach, who launched Harold Lloyd and the Laurel and Hardy era, died Monday after pneumonia. John C. Kingery of Morgantown, Ky., 82, Alzheimer’s patient died Monday. his daughter Sue Gifford faces kidnapping and perjury charges with trial set for Nov. 17. James Joseph Beltritti, 82, former Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, died Sunday. Karl W. Deutsch, 80, author and former director of the International Institute of Comparative Research in Berlin, died Sunday of cancer. Erwin D. Okun, 58, Walt Disney Co. chief spokesman, died Sunday of cancer. Richard F. Beirne III, 82, president of Covington Virginian Inc. and publisher of the Virginian Review, died Sunday.
