Francis J. Sweeney a 32 year old Mallory resident was killed instantly when a CB radio antenna he allegedly tried to steal touched a 4800 volt power line at the Niagara Mohawk transfer station just north of Route 49 in Oswego County. State police say he climbed a fence, disconnected the antenna then dropped it into the line. His body was taken to the Oswego County coroner for autopsy.
Severe floods in Athens and the port of Piraeus killed at least 25 people after torrential rains. An earthquake measured between 5 and 6 on the Richter scale rattled northern Greece, southern Bulgaria, and southeastern Yugoslavia with no reported casualties from the quake.
