New York state enacts prompt suspension for arraigned DUI offenders with BAC of .10 or higher. The law, effective today, suspends licenses up to 30 days and makes New York the 38th state to adopt such measures. RID leaders Donald Weiland and Doris Aiken promoted the bill, with Weiland walking from Rochester to Albany for support.
In Pensacola Florida on Monday Paul Hill, former minister charged with killing abortion doctor Dr John Bayard Britton and bodyguard James H Barrett, again opted to act as his own attorney offering no juror questions or opening statement. Four witnesses testified that Hill shot both victims on July 29 near the clinic. Barrett's wife June was wounded.
